Time to Change

Time to Change logoTime to Change is a national campaign to end discrimination faced by people who experience mental health problems. It is led two mental health charities, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief and supported by celebrities including Ruby Wax and Stephen Fry.

The impact of prejudice and fear around mental health can be devastating for people experiencing mental health problems and their families. Ignorance and stigma can prevent people seeking help when they need it from friends or their GP and can stop people getting the jobs they are qualified to do.

It might restrict people playing an active role in their community. It can stop people building new friendships and mean they lose existing ones. It can mean that everyday activities that you might take for granted, like going to the pub, shops or gym are impossible.

The aims of the campaign are:

  • To create a 5% positive shift in public attitudes towards mental health problems.
  • To achieve a 5% reduction in discrimination by 2012.
  • To increase the ability of 100,000 people with mental health problems to address discrimination.
  • To engage over 250,000 people in physical activity.
  • To produce a powerful evidence base of what works.

NHS Lambeth are supporting the campaign in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, the voluntary sector and individuals across Lambeth.

We want to help change behaviour and attitudes towards people with mental health problems, particularly amongst employers. We also want people to start talking about mental health and thinking about how they can improve their mental wellbeing and that of the people around them.
